High
Waiting for a thought to claim as your own
And hoping for a line to connect the dots
Running to a home your mind has made up
And falling from a ledge with both eyes closed
And you want to be the one who wants to wake up
You’re high
And you wanna be the light the darkness breaks up
You try
Mama went to work and Papa stayed home
And life began to melt from the inside out
Breaking all the chains that everyone knew
And sweeping off the dust from the brand new tune
And you wanna be the one who wants to wake up
You’re high
And you wanna be the light the darkness breaks up
You try
And you wanna put your faith in this place you’ve made up
But life will murder
And you wanna tip your hat to the man in make-up
But lies will conquer
: Music by Austin
: Lyrics by Dansare

1. High
Eyelit
The music and melody were the first things to be written (by Austin), followed by the lyrics (by Dansare). Austin was just playing around on his guitar one day, and he came up with the simple chord progression and picking pattern, then he started singing the melody to the chorus (and eventually, the verse). Dansare thought it was beautiful and asked if she could write the lyrics, Austin was all for that. So, Austin recorded the form and entire melody of the song for Dansare… she then wrote the lyrics and then they both recorded the whole thing (which is what you’ll hear in this song).
‘High’ is also included on Eyelit’s full length album, ‘The Woe Dies’.
