Dying Old
Thought I’d lay it out on paper
Because it’s all in my head
See, there’s this girl I met last winter
She brought me back from my grave
And the sound of her voice
I sing over in my head
The touch of her skin is to die for
See the wind at my back is easy
And the light up ahead
Looks good but I’m staying
And the sound of the rain
It’s sure pretty, but I want you
Living life with you
My life with you
Is all I want to do
All I want to do
All I want to do
Growing old
Singing old
Crying old
Dying old

1. Dying Old
Eyelit
High
Waiting for a thought to claim as your own
And hoping for a line to connect the dots
Running to a home your mind has made up
And falling from a ledge with both eyes closed
And you want to be the one who wants to wake up
You’re high
And you wanna be the light the darkness breaks up
You try
Mama went to work and Papa stayed home
And life began to melt from the inside out
Breaking all the chains that everyone knew
And sweeping off the dust from the brand new tune
And you wanna be the one who wants to wake up
You’re high
And you wanna be the light the darkness breaks up
You try
And you wanna put your faith in this place you’ve made up
But life will murder
And you wanna tip your hat to the man in make-up
But lies will conquer

2. High
Eyelit
In Shade
Pull behind him
Fast behind my trail
I was sleeping
Pure green pastures lead away
I will stay
For you left me dead
In your moment
I’ve pulled back my hold
While you’re sleeping
Pure green pastures fold away
I will go
For you have me no more
Left in shackles
You’ll fight your way through
Me, I’ll follow
Me, I’ll find you
Left in brambles
I’ll find my way out
Find your way home
Find me in shade
Find me in shade
Find me in shade
Find me in shade
: Music & Lyrics by Austin

3. In Shade
Eyelit
Sun
Stand back up
It’s what they told me to do
Live happy
And you will see life through
Well, I’m crazy
I’ve surely done something wrong
‘Cause this hurting
Is not what you have sung
See, I’ve tried that
I’ve tried your fake happy smiles
And I notice
That life is more than smiles
Be kind sir
‘Cause I’m lonely and lost
And this world
Ain’t so small, I guess
I’m living
For the sun to shine
Heart beating
For the second time
I’ll follow
This trail to the sky
I’m waiting
For the sun to shine
He left me
Damn fool told me so
Thought I was worth it
Worth the second show
Well, I’m crazy
Hoped life meant more than this
‘Cause this hurting
Is not what I’d have guessed
See, I’ve tried that
I’ve tried to live what you said
And I notice
That there’s no love in you now
So be kind sir
‘Cause you’ve left me broken
And this world
Aint so small, I guess
I’m living
For the sun to shine
Heart beating
For the second time
I’ll follow
This trail to the sky
I’m waiting
For the sun to shine

4. Sun
Eyelit
I Wish You The Best
I fall to the earth
Thoughts where I’ve been
Hunters drink slow
Lovers drink thin
Before my eyes
Lights on the floor
I’ve been here before
I’ve been here before
Brothers fall fast
Sisters pretend
I take what I have
And nothing has been
The floor comes around
The clouds I return
Who have I been
Who have I been
I wish you the best
I wish you the best
I wish you the best
I wish you the best
Over these seas
I see where I am
Melting my snow
Tearing my skin
The sun burns me slow
As I return
The sea says it’s home
The sky welcomes in
Before I go
And before I am
I take what I have
And nothing has been
The earth comes around
The clouds I return
Who have I seen
Who have I been
I wish you the best
I wish you the best
I wish you the best
I wish you the best

5. I Wish You The Best
Eyelit
I Want You To Want Me
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I’d love you to love me
I’m beggin’ you to beg me
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I’d love you to love me
Shine up the old brown shoes, put on a brand-new shirt
I’ll get home early from work if you say that you love me
Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I see you cryin’
Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I see you cryin’
Feelin’ all alone without a friend, you know you feel like dyin’
Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I see you cryin’
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I’d love you to love me
I’m beggin’ you to beg me
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I’d love you to love me
I’ll shine up the old brown shoes, put on a brand-new shirt
I’ll get home early from work if you say that you love me
Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I see you cryin’
Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I see you cryin’
Feelin’ all alone without a friend, you know you feel like dyin’
Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I see you cryin’
I want you to want me
I want you to want me

6. I Want You To Want Me
Eyelit
She Holds His Hand Tight
Walking past the steps to her church
Holds her breath and squeezes shut her eyes
Nothing, no one can protect her
From this curse that keeps her up at night
She holds his hand tight
One by one, her enemies try
To approach her and unfold her clothes
She begins to wonder around them
Kissing cheeks and showing smiles wide
She holds his hand tight
With one swing of the hand, she sings
And old men start their crying
Pictures of her future ring
When children come to see them
So when the devil licks your lips
You pray to god you’re living
The whisper in your eyes still burn
So hold his hand, hold his hand tight
Takes to the streets and presses onward
Selling songs and making up her life
Perfect weather meets her footstep
Rain falls as she looks up toward sky
She holds his hand tight
With every word she speaks in vain
They open their cathedrals
The song of man speaks truth to her
Yet she remains unbroken
We found her in the tomb of some old hag who lost her freedom
Through healthy man and loved ones lost
She held his hand, held his hand tight
Inside this maze lay a wasteland
Of the singing she who be a maze child
We find she’s gone again
She saw and took a friend
She holds his hand tight
: Music & Lyrics by Austin

7. She Holds His Hand Tight
Eyelit
Rolling Road
We’ll go find a place that can find us
The preacher told us, dear… to find our own
In this dark old town, they’ll wish to keep us
Thinking about the time we’ve spent and waisted
Kick my feet, for the record
Picking up folks that remember who you are
Leave the car on the highway, gas is too expensive
Take a hike on that road, keep on dreaming
Sell your body for cash and let the road tear you down
Give your body for soul, that’s living
Drive me there in the mean time
To that old rolling road, I started dreaming
Really dreaming
Really dreaming
Rolling road
Really living
Really living
Rolling road
: Music & Lyrics by Austin

8. Rolling Road
Eyelit
A Moon Dream
Sleep through the storm again
Peek through my windowpane
The sun, seeing how it rise in depth
The funny thing is how the creatures look without a deep breath
There is a boy, not too tall but still a strapping boy
He speaks to trees and earth, giving, taking life… I see the birth
The monsters cry, wishing home would come again
To speak is lie, wearing all this makes such little sense now
I know that nothing gives without first taking
Eyes, see something that takes away my first glance
He takes me to a door, reaching to the sky, I enter slow
The moon, it lives in here, smoking herb and swimming in the sun
It speaks of time, and how we live without it known
The preacher’s crime, was to always open without questions
I fall asleep again, just to wake into a blind new world
A monster speaks to me, offering eyes and guidance to my safety
So lost am I, I can barely feel the wind
My hopes sure die, crying to my home, I only wished now
By and by, I would rather live here than go back now
Please be fine without me, you’d have it until all gone
: Music & Lyrics by Austin

9. A Moon Dream
Eyelit
Motionless
See the ashes fall
From the burning stage, you’re crying
Here, the music died
With all the pretty pictures you wanted
So, we’re here and now
But what’s now is gone
Always
Wanting peace on earth
Until you see the birth
It takes some, some time
‘Cause in this heartache
I’m finding what it is to be man
One two three four
One foot in front of the other
Kiss the pretty girl
Stand up and lead like the others
‘Cause your idea’s best
Your motive is best
I guess I’ll follow this
All this motionlessness
Taking all the time
Being cute and shining
You’re always
Going loud and strong
Let it pass
But you can’t find it in yourself
‘Cause in this heartache
I’m finding what it is to be man
One two three four
One foot in front of the other
Kiss the pretty girl
Stand up and lead like the others
‘Cause your idea’s best
All this motionlessness
If sane be war or peace
Choose I war or peace?
Truth seeks man or myth
Seeming more and more myth
I’ll pick me up when I wanna
Put you down when I oughta
Curse and scream when I feel it
Use the words when I need it
I’ll pick the worst of the fools
Speak my mind to the humble
Say I hate you when I hate you
I love you when I love you
Be a man like I see it
Judge a man like I see him
Hear a god like I know it
Curse the gods just to show it
‘Cause in this heartache
I’m finding what it is to be man
: Music & Lyrics by Austin

10. Motionless
Eyelit
Holding My Own
Puzzled light seeps through my mind
Waiting for a sign to realize
Blank placement made to realize
That this is gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
Wasted Might has a grip on me
Tearing at the heart of vacancy
True love was made for us to see
That this is gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
And until my heart decides
That I’ll be fine with holding my own
And I will try to find the time
To hold my head up to the sky
Weathered hands and naked feet
Crying for an ounce of immortality
Convinced and denying
That this is gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
That this is gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
And until my heart decides
That I’ll be fine with holding my own
And I will try to find the time
To hold my head up to the sky
I will try
And I will try
Yes I will try
I will try
And until my heart decides
That I’ll be fine with holding my own
And I will try to find the time
To hold my head up to the sky
To hold my head up to the sky
To hold my head up to the sky

12. She Holds His Hand Tight [Acoustic]
Eyelit
After over a year, Eyelit finally finished writing, recording, producing, and mixing ‘The Woe Dies’ (their first full-length album). It was an exciting and annoying adventure, and they’re happy it’s finally over. Here’s the story for you…
Once upon a thing, there was a guitar, a guy, a girl, and an occasional piano… drum… mandolin… anyway, there were some people and some instruments. They all decided to sit down and put their sounds together because their last attempt (‘Elephant – EP’) left them embarrassed and unsatisfied. After much deliberation between the piano and guitar, the guy and the girl decided to kick the piano out of the band for being an asshole. Later, the piano came back… but not without some scolding from the guitar.
The guy and the girl are procrastinators, that’s one of the first things you should know. The instruments would constantly nag and moan at the guy and the girl to sit down and put the sounds together, but they (the guy and the girl) didn’t want anything to do with it. See, the guy and the girl were kind of getting sick of pretty folk music and wanted to do something else. But, after much deliberation between the guy and the girl’s talent, they realized they were far too dumb to do anything else (no offense to folk music, of course). So, finally, the guy decided to start putting the sounds together, but sadly, he had just started a job as a janitor… and the guy did not like using his free time to work on music he was bored with. So the guy figured out a way to record and mix at work, after he finished his janitor duties. After many months of this process, the guy finally got pissed enough and quit his job, hoping he’d finish this “album”… but then his laziness and procrastination kicked in again.
After about a month of being jobless, the guy decided that he would try and finish the album. So he brought a violin into the mix to maybe change things up… the guy was very pleased. This violin action gave the guy the kick in the ass he needed to finish putting the sounds together, and that’s what you’ll hear in ‘The Woe Dies’.
As far as the song meanings and recording processes go… that’ll come another day.
